The Communications and Information Technology Commission was established pursuant to Law No. 37 of 2014 with the aim of keeping pace with the rapid development witnessed by the communications and information technology sector in the State of Kuwait, and to meet the urgent need for the presence of a specialized government agency that enjoys public legal personality, administrative and financial independence, and possesses effective regulatory tools and oversight mechanisms that guarantee the progress of this sector. It supports its growth and investment in it to achieve optimal performance according to rules that ensure free and fair competition, meet the needs of users, and protect their interests.
With the issuance of the law, the Authority replaced the Ministry of Transportation and became the body responsible for regulating and monitoring the communications and information technology sector. Since the practical application of the law has shown the need to amend some articles and add paragraphs and clauses within its articles, Law No. 98 of 2015 was issued amending some provisions of Law No. 37 of 2014 out of a desire to develop work performance and to empower the Authority with more regulatory and supervisory powers.
